报告题目:Quantized traces from Fredholm determinants, K-theory, and physics

摘要: For mathematicians, the quantum Hall effect phenomena discovered in experimental physics could be viewed as a powerful source of conjectures on the integrality of various trace formulae, roughly analogous to the quantization of integrated Gaussian curvature (Gauss-Bonnet theorem). I will present a selection of such formulae, focusing on the ones which seem the most surprising from the viewpoint of functional analysis. For example, I will explain the proof of a conjecture on Fredholm determinants, which rely crucially on algebraic K-theory combined with spectral theory, and sketch the connections to index theory and coarse geometry.
